Susan G. Koman Donation

Posted: 05.19.2010

Region 8 mailed in $2,500.00 in donations from judges, coaches and parents to Susan G. Koman.

This was what was read during every session at the Level 7 & 8 Regionals.

Once again Region 8 USA Gymnastics is proud to sponsor the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Supporting this foundation financially is extremely important. Educating our female athletes about breast cancer is equally as important. Last year Region 8 donated over $1,000.00 to Susan G. Komen and this year we have $1,000.00 from our judges, $1,000.00 from South Carolina and GK Elite is donating a portion from the sales of the lovely leotards our athletes are wearing tonight went to this worthy cause.

Your donations help create educational opportunities for our athletes and help in the battle for the cure for breast cancer hopefully during these athletes lifetime.

Soon a gymnast will pass your way in the stands. This is your opportunity to help continue the fight.

Golf Tournament at Region 8 Congress

Posted: 05.19.2010

We have a golf tournament set up for region 8 congress. It will be held on Thursday afternoon before congress starts on Friday @ Bobby Jones golf course in Atlanta.  The course it about 10 minutes from the host hotel.
Bobby Jones Golf Course
384 Woodward Way
Atlanta, GA 30305
Thanks.
Patrick Thomas

Welcome to a golf tournament for all coaches and judges attending the Region 8 USAG Congress in Atlanta! Whether you are attending the congress, wanting to play golf, or just want to come out and enjoy the day, we invite you to attend!

The tournament is going to be best ball scramble - so each person will hit a shot, then everyone will hit again from the best ball lie. You don't have to be a great golfer or bringing an entire foursome. Each foursome will be drawn prior to shotgun. All golfers will be sorted by handicap and drawn to form even teams and avoid sand baggers.

This is a great opportunity to get to know everyone from Region 8 and have a great time. A majority of the proceeds will be donated between Region 8, the NAWGJ and Georgia Gymnastics. We are hopeful that in future years, the tournament will move around and be held in the same city that hosts Region 8 Congress that year. Future years proceeds would then be split between Region 8, NAWGJ and the state gymnastics association hosting congress.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact us at info@gymsations.com. To register for the event, please fill out the registration form and submit it along with your payment of $75. On-line registrations can pay with a credit card via PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account to complete the payment process.  Click on the below link to register.

Letter From D J Milem

Posted: 05.11.2010

TO: Region VIII Committee and Members of the "Gymnastics Family"
FROM: D.J. Milem
RE: My Annie
This is an open letter to all of my "surrogate" family that my wife Ann and I came to know over these past 35 years. As you have probably heard she finally lost the battle with cancer and died in the arms of her daughter April at 1:30 a.m. on April 30th. We had a memorial service and a "celebration of her life" party at my house (just close family and 400 friends) on the 8th of May. That date was unfortunately the same weekend as several National Meets so our attendance actually would have been larger.
I am writing this letter to thank all of the people responsible for the huge outpouring of money and love that have helped her and myself financially and spiritually through this long and expensive ordeal. From the $25 checks to the large amounts donated from the Region’s Women’s Program plus the Boy’s Meet at Sun Country "Annie’s Meet" that the funds were all donated to her. All you folks probably don’t realize that Medicare runs out after 100 days so after that you are on your own.
Her ordeal lasted over eight months on this last bout with this illness. We thought we had cancer whipped three times but after the several bouts of Chemo treatment, Radiation, two Brain Surgeries, Radiation again, her Doctor finally said "Let nature take it’s course".
From home to Emergency Room, to Rehab Center, to home, back to E.R., to "Life Care,’" to home, to ER, to her final stay at Hospice she was a fighter and never gave up. Throughout the entire ordeal she never complained, no hair but a huge smile, she was "My Annie." til the end, when the three seizures put her into a coma that she never awoke from.
Again let me say thank you to all who have supported us through this nightmare . . may you never have to experience this . . . . DJ Milem

Sad news - Ann Milem

Posted: 04.30.2010

From DJ...
It is my sad task to tell all that my Annie passed away this morning at 1:30 a.m. She had undergone several seizures and had never regained consciousness in 4 days. Her daughter April was staying with her at the hospice and said she started having trouble breathing . I arrived about 2:00 and held her for the last time. Her passing leaves a large vacant space in my life, that only time will heal.

The Memorial Service is next Saturday, May 8th at 1:00 at Parkwood Baptist Church. Thank you again for all your love and support!

You may contact DJ  or % All American Gymnastics, 730 St. Johns Bluff Road N., Jacksonville, FL 32225
